Hot2Travel Review of Hemlock Acres Campground

Hemlock Acres Campground, Near State College, PA

After a recent Penn State football game (Joe Paterno’s 400th Victory), we had the good fortune to stay a the Hemlock Acres Campground near State College, PA The Campground has 150 acres nestled in the hemlock woods of beautiful north central Pennsylvania 20 miles east of State College, home to Penn State University. They are also 1 mile from the well known fisherman’s haven, Penn’s Creek.
If you like camping, whether you are an RVer, a tenter or would prefer one of their rustic or brand new cabins, they have the perfect spot for you! We stayed in one of the recently built cabins, the Black Bear Lodge. Here are some of the details and features of the Hemlock Acres Campground..
  • Swimming Pool
  • LP Gas on-site
  • Firewood for sale
  • Honey wagon service
  • Special activities on holiday weekends
  • Large Pavilion for family, church or other group gatherings
  • We are Pet -Friendly, except for Whitetail and Black Bear Lodges.
  • Amish-built log cabins, new in 2008.
  • Each cabin sleeps 6 – One bedroom with 2 bunkbeds (sleeps 4), loft with 2 single beds (sleeps 2).
  • You will need to bring your own bedding and pillows.
  • Bathroom with toilet, shower and sink.
  • Hot and cold running water throughout.
  • Living area with kitchen and dining table with 2 chairs and 4 stools.
  • Wicker chair, TV with DVD player.
  • Propane fueled “wood” stove.
  • Kitchen is well-equppied with sink, full-sized refrigerator, stovetop, electric coffeemaker and good selection of dishes, pots, pans and utensils.
  • Covered porch with 2 chairs.
  • Picnic table and fire ring.
  • Pets are NOT allowed in these cabins.
  • If you want to bring a pet, consider their other cabins.
  • These cabins are non-smoking only.
  • $100 per night (2 night minimum – single nights slightly higher)
  • Weekly rate: $600 (7 nights)
We had a really nice stay at the Hemlock Acres Campground and met one of the owners, Rudy. We had the opportunity to walk around the campgrounds and check out some of the other campsites, RV sites and lodges. Whether you are with the Boy or Girl Scouts, a church group, or a club, this could be the right place for your group in any season. They also have facilities ideal for your company or church picnics with a swimming pool, picnic pavilion and hay wagon rides. They have plenty of fishing nearby, whether you’re into serious flyfishing, or just like to sit by the creek.

Hot2Travel Review of Four Dreamers – Topsail Beach, North Carolina

Hot2Travel Stays at Four Dreamers – Topsail Beach, North Carolina

Hey all you Hot2Travel people! Here is our latest excursion to Topsail Beach, North Carolina. We were invited to stay at the Four Dreamers beach rental during the week of August 14 through August 21, 2010.
     Topsail Beach is near the southern end of 26-mile long Topsail Island, off the coast of southeastern North Carolina. Topsail Island is just off US Highway 17, about half-way between Wilmington and Jacksonville, North Carolina.

  Our vacation officially started with a 6:30 PM check-in at the Four Dreamers beach rental. Four Dreamers is a beautifully decorated, two story rental home, with plenty of room for eight adults, and is in close proximity to the ocean. There is a storage closet on the ground level and the owners allow pets for an additional fee. The public beach access right across the street makes it easy for visitors who like taking walks on the beach, fishing, searching for shells, riding the waves, or just lounging in a beach chair for hours reading a favorite book or magazine. We took advantage of those activities and much more.

On our first night we decided to sample some of the local food and chose the Home Port Restaurant & Pub. There we enjoyed three large pizzas, salads, and beverages. We had enough left over for lunch the next day! After a trip to several local markets, a full size refrigerator and plenty of cabinets held all of the gathered essentials. With the included wireless internet service we could check our emails in between beach visits, relaxing, and dog walking. We were on our own for breakfast and lunch, but for dinner we took turns making our favorite savory dishes in the ample kitchen.  Our days ended with dominoes, card games, or a 750 piece puzzle all while listening to music from the 60′s and 70′s. On one of our days we walked on the bay side of the island and found even more beautiful sea shells.

The Pineno Travel stay in the Four Dreamers rental at Topsail Beach was completely relaxing and enjoyable. Like most properties, the price is determined by the week chosen. Prime “in season” weeks cost more than “out of season” weeks. What a great getaway for beach lovers… “beach bum” anyone?

Some other things to consider when you visit Topsail Island include: Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, and the Missiles and More Museum. Visitors get a sense of area history and the important conservation work being accomplished on the island.
